Amazing Vintage 1940's Smiley Pig Cookie Jar -Yellow Scarf Shawnee Pottery, Made in USA. In excellent used vintage condition. Still has part of the original "Hand Painted" foil label attached!
You could remove the foil label with some effort, but we think it's neat and adds character and uniqueness to the piece. We try to be as detailed as possible in our description so we have listed all hand made imperfections we have noted below. No chips, cracks, crazing or repairs noted!These are hand painted which makes each one unigue. There are a few imperfections such as a few small "dots" in the glaze, which is normal from the firing process. There is a tiny scratch under the word "Smiley" in the front.
The yellow scarf has some darker yellow paint strokes. The inner rim of the lid has, at first glance, what appears to be a chip but it's not. It is smooth to the touch and covered with glaze. His yellow painted neckerchief, blue shoulders/straps and brown painted areas are matte glaze while the rest is glossy. He measures approximately 11.5" Tall x 7" Wide x 6 Deep.See pics for his lovely vintage condition and please feel free to ask any questions. Your collectible will be well packed.
We over pack everything, just as if we were sending this to Mom or Grammy! Of Zanesville, Ohio, began making these cookie jars in 1942. At first they were called Smiling Pig. The earliest ones were cold-painted or plain and had a triangular rim. Later jars had round openings and were hand-painted or decorated with decals. Decorations included apples, clover, flowers, plums, shamrocks or strawberries and different-colored kerchiefs. Please see pics, which are worth a 1000 words! We will do our best to make it right!
