Mark Hewitt studio pottery wood-fired wide dish with glaze trailing decoration
Welcome to our August backyard pottery sale! We are posting dozens of pieces of studio pottery for sale, mostly made within the last 20 years. Most are in excellent and usable condition. We will do our best to describe & photograph them. Please send questions if you have any. Thank you for taking a look. Artist: Mark Hewitt (Pittsboro, NC). Size: 2 and 10.75 diam. This piece was wood-fired in Hewitt's own large kiln with a salt atmosphere. The 92 stamp on the bottom indicates that it was the 92nd.
The deep, almost bowl-like plate (or plate-like bowl) features Hewitts unusual glaze-trailing decoration and a clear glaze on the interior, with wad marks present on both the rim and foot from stacking work in the kiln. An excellent example of this rarely-seen motif from Hewitt. The item "Mark Hewitt studio pottery wood-fired wide dish with glaze trailing decoration" is in sale since Friday, August 6, 2021.
