Antique Roseville Art Pottery Vase Description and Item Information Up for sale is this large, antique Roseville Early Carnelian art pottery vase. Please excuse the glare in the photos. This piece has a matte olive green glaze, with areas of reddish brown.
It stands approximately 8 1/4 inches tall, and it has a maximum width of about 9 3/4 inches. It is heavy for its size, weighing 7 pounds 14.9 ounces, unpacked. It has tripod stilt marks beneath. This handsome pot would look great displayed with other American pottery, or it would complement an arts and crafts decor. Identification This piece is Roseville pottery, circa 1916, from the Early Carnelian line. This shape is shown on page 118 of Mark Bassett's Understanding Roseville Pottery.Condition This piece looks good overall, with no chips or cracks. It has light wear, with wear scratches beneath, and a minor scuff here or there elsewhere. There is a rust stain to the interior bottom. Minor flaws are as made, including a short linear indent (to the upper, exterior rim), a glazed-over raised bump (near the bottom), a few smaller glazed-over raised bumps (upper exterior), two small dark green glaze dots, and a few thin glaze areas. Variations in glazing are as made.
