Amazing Ceramic Large Pig with Red Pins. The green glazed pig bank was made by award winning ceramicist Irene Alejos Orozco.
She is from the town of San Jose de Gracia, Michoacan de Ocampo, Mexico. This is a new twist on the handmade pig. She added red pins to the ceramic pig. Each pin was added one by one. Consuming , taking two months to make.First the pig is molded, then before it is put into the kiln, Irene makes the holes onto the pig. Afterwards each pin is added to the holes. The type of gazing is called Barro Vidrialo. Ceramic glaze is an impervious layer or coating of a vitreous substance which has been fused to a ceramic body through firing. Glaze can serve to color, decorate or waterproof an item. Glazing renders earthenware vessels suitable for holding liquids, sealing the inherent porosity of unglazed biscuit earthenware. Was one of the few artisans selected to attend el Premio Nacional de la Ceramica, or The National Ceramic Awards in Tlaquepaque, Mexico.
