Vally Wieselthier Horse Head Vase. This is a rare and unique ceramic sculpture piece made by Austrian artist, Vally Wieselthier. This striking vessel is equestrian-themed & has large, protruding horse head handles.
It also has a domed base and is painted in a colorful glaze of red and blues. Wieselthier was one of Europes best-known female sculptors. Her unique style produced figural designs that were unmistakably ornate, but with elements of the grotesque.Works are featured in prominent museums all over the world, including The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. I sincerely hope that this vase will belong to someone or some organization that will display it and appreciate its beauty. It deserves a much better fate than being tucked away in my closet wrapped in a thousand layers of bubble wrap as it has been for the last 10 years. Ive been terrified of breaking it!
This piece is of immense sentimental value to me and I have agonized over my decision to part with it. It was left to me by a very dear friend who passed away suddenly at the young age of 29. He was never much for material possessions, and so Id like to think he would approve of me using the profits to pay off some student loans and fulfill my dream of travelling to the tropics.
