19th century Rookwood hand painted flowers, signed art pottery vase
Beautiful hand painted Rookwood vase measures about 7 tall, and only flaw is underneath on base, well out of view, and highlighted in photos 4 and 9. It is about 2 1/4" across open top, about 4" at widest upper midpoint, and 2 1/2 across bottom base. Rookwood mark looks to have 10 flames, making it an 1897 piece, maybe 9 indicating 1896; it also is impressed: 735D.
The initials of artist looked a bit like JH, for Janet Harris, but she only worked for Rookwood 3 years between1929-32, so she came in too late to have made this lovely piece.. There is an HF, listed as an'unknown artist'. Fogelsong fits the date, as well as McLaughlin. I can't say who the artist was, but extremely talented one for certain....
A schooled and gracious ebayer suggested the artist for this work may be Katherine Leslie Hickman.
